Why Did You Doubt?

Sometimes we are our own biggest enemy. When we don’t believe we can be successful. When we give up on praying for something because we think it’s useless. When we doubt our ability to pass the board exam. When we don’t believe we can make it through another day.

But did you know that our doubt dishonors God?

Wasn’t it God who said,

If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move.” Matthew 17:20

This mustard seed is so tiny, it’s barely noticeable. But God says to have faith in Him. Therefore we have faith that we can do all things through Christ.

It doesn’t matter if our faith is weak. It’s not how strong our faith is, but how strong the object of your faith is. And God will help strengthen our weak faith.

When we cannot take another step, or pray another prayer, true faith says “I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24)

When we doubt ourselves, we doubt God. We doubt what He can do through us. We doubt His promises and what He has proclaimed over our lives.

When we wrestle with doubt, here are the things you can do to help:

  1. Take time to soak on God’s word. His word will help us be reminded of the truth and how to strengthen our faith.

  2. We cannot carry our doubts alone. Share it with a close Christian friend or spiritual leader who will encourage you and speak life to you.

  3. Feed your spirit – take note of what you watch, listen to and read. Be careful that you are not feeding your spirit with worldly entertainment more than you spend time nourishing your soul.

  4. Simply believe. Jesus is telling you, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31)

Let us stop doubting ourselves and look instead to what God can do. Because nothing is impossible to the one who believes.
